Our client is one of the leading health insurance companies in Switzerland which started its digitalization journey several years ago. As we have seen with many clients, they relied exclusively on external service providers to develop new digital products to date.
With the increasing importance of digital products for their overall customer offering, the strategic decision to insource development capabilities for customer facing products was taken.
This step put the organization to face processes and technical challenges which they had not dealt with before. Namely, these were: establishing a new way of working for the digital factory team and surrounding parts of the organization to allow for agile product development, navigate the complex existing IT system structures with many third party applications and define a roadmap for upcoming product increments, as well as involve the management team to govern the new unity adequately.

By setting up the digital factory with OpenWT’s support, the client could immediately start with the development of new features for their digital products. Thereby, our seasoned experts in the fields of infrastructure and DevOps, web & mobile application development, as well as business analysis and project management kick-started the process and long recruitment and organizational setup times common to insourcing attempts were circumvented. During the course of the project, our experts on the one hand actively worked on the customer’s digital products to expand development capacities and on the other hand supported in the governance and management of the digital factory. This also included taking over the ad interim digital factory leadership in times of personnel changes in our client’s organization.
